Easter (n) Practice (15’) -T gives Ss some pre- listening questions How many celebrations are mentioned in the passage? What are they? -T plays the tape again and asks Ss do the task (page 66 in textbook) -Ss listen and complete the chart Production (10’) -T has Ss use world nap to ask and answer about the time, activities, and special food of Lunar New Year, Passover and Easter. -T explains the structure briefly (Relative clause) Homework (3’) -Ss write three sentences about the time, activities and special food which are used in the special occasions V/Self - evaluation: Week: Period: Teaching date: UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Lesson 2: Speak I/Objectives: After learning the lesson, ss may: -develop speaking skill. -give and respond to compliments II/Language content: -Structures of giving and responding compliments Thanks It’s nice of you to say so That’s very kind of you -T notices ss of how to give compliments *Task 1: -T asks ss to read the first situation “Trang has just won the first prize in the English speaking contest” (Ss practice in groups) *Task 2: -T asks ss to look at 4 pictures and use these expressions and practice in groups -T has some pairs of ss practice in front of the class -T corrects the students’ mistakes if there are any Post- speaking -T has two or three pairs of students give their friends responds (15’) -T corrects the mistakes if there are any Homework (5’) -T asks Ss to think about two or three situations which are the same as the examples in the textbook, then practice writing and speaking to their friends about these situations VI/Self – evaluation Week: Period: Teaching date: UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Lesson 3: Listen I/Objectives: -Students listen for specific information to fill in the missing words -Ss will be able to complete the song by filling in the missing words II/Language content: 3. mind 4. hand 5. kindness -T are suggested to give the translation of the original Scots version into standard English Post- listening -Ss work in group and discuss the questions “What do you and your (7’) family usually do on New Year’s Eve?” Homework (3’) -Ss find the English version for “Auld lang syne” VI/Self - evaluation: Week: Period: Teaching date: UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Lesson 4: Read I/Objectives: -Ss know more about celebrations in some countries -Ss will be able to express their opinions about someone or something II/Language content: -Vocabulary: nouns: hug, sense of humor, priority verb: distingguish III/Techniques: -Brainstorming -Questions and answers -Completion answer questions about it -T asks some comprehension questions Post- reading -T tells ss to work in group of three or four and discuss about (10’) their fathers Homework (3’) -T has Ss write their cards to their fathers VI/Self - evaluation: Week: Period: Teaching date: UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Lesson 5: Write I/Objectives: -After learning the lesson, Ss may write a personal letter based on a suggested outline II/Language content: -Relative clauses -Adverb clauses of concession III/Techniques: -Questions and answers -Sentence – building -Matching -Rearranging IV/Teaching aids: -Pictures of the activities in the countryside, flashcards -Transparence sheets and OHP Week: Period: Teaching date: UNIT 8: CELEBRATIONS Lesson 6: Language Focus I/Objectives: -By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to Recognize and distinguish relative clauses Know how to use them in various situations II/Language content: -Relative clauses -Adverb clauses of concession III/Techniques: -Questions answers -Sentence – building -Matching -Describing -Filling in the gaps -Guessing IV/Teaching aids: -Pictures (of LF) V/Time and procedures: 45' STEPS ACTIVITIES Warm-up *Relative clause completion (7’) -T asks Ss to work in groups (Ss say the first clause of a complex sentence, T calls at random on members of the groups to complete the sentences. Ss can use their own ideas but they have to make sense. Ss with no reaction (no answers) in less than 5 seconds will be the loser.
